VERSE OF THE WEEK
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. – Zechariah 4:6
“Let Go and Let God”
Who do you rely on most? Yourself? That is true of many Americans. But for the believer, reliance on one’s self is antithetical to what God wants of His people. Galatians 3:3 asks, “Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” Such an attitude is foolishness, the apostle Paul says. So, whether you desire more spiritual growth or more self-control, it is the same grace and the same Spirit that redeemed you that will provide those things for you. Dr. Tim Keller, the pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, puts it this way, “The Spirit does not work (never works) apart from the gospel… It is the channel and forum of the Spirit’s power… (Paul) says that the way the Spirit entered your life should be the very same way the Spirit advances in your life.” So set aside your struggle with trying to do it all yourself, and let God work in you, “to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
